The area around Charleston, SC has many great locations for family portraits, and my friends at Red, White, & Bloom have just added one more to the list.
This year, Matt and Sasha brought their agricultural vision to fruition. (Now there’s a pun!) They have a wonderful little farm in Moncks Corner, SC, and have worked hard through heat, humidity, and SC bugs to bring something a little different to the Lowcountry: u-pick flowers. Their farm is a true labor of love. When I visited pre-global pandemic, they had a few rows of daffodils. When I returned last week, they had several different varieties of sunflowers, colorful zinnias, cosmos, as well as several other beautiful flowers to fill out a bouquet. It’s the perfect activity to do with your kids (or Mom!), but if you can’t make it to the farm, they sell flowers at the town of Moncks Corner’s farmer’s market, too. But you might want to go early, because I hear they sell out quickly!
Not only do they sell flowers, (and eggs and honey!), they allow sessions on the property. Photographers, this is a lovely space for portraits. There are nooks in between the rows of flowers to give your photos lots of color. And if you are a lover of macro photography, I guarantee you can get lost there for a while between the flowers and the pollinators.
I was really looking forward to my sessions there – but the weather had the flowers best interest at heart – not mine. We were about 10 minutes into our session when it began to rain. I have to admit – I was totally bummed, but things perked up when I remembered I had a couple of clear umbrellas in the trunk of my vehicle. And those umbrellas – and the kids marching around the farm with them – pretty much made the session in my eyes. I adore how these turned out. I think my kids need to put on some rainboots and get some umbrellas out and we’ll head out to the farm the next time it rains.
