Beach portrait session

If there is one thing I’ve learned about the weather here in the Charleston/Lowcountry area, it is that you cannot predict the weather.  The weather phenomenon happening at my home in Moncks Corner is often quite different than what is happening downtown or at the beach.  Really, the weather from my house to my parents’ house is often different, and we live 9 minutes away from one another.

There was a chance of thunderstorms on the day I photographed this sweet family, which was a bummer, because they were only in town for a few days.  It was their first vacation as a family of three, and they wanted beach portraits to capture that experience.  We made tentative rain plans, but when it came down to it, I really hoped we’d be able to stick to our original session time, because I know all too well how rearranging weekend trip plans can be a major pain.

The afternoon looked nice as I packed my gear up, and once I loaded it all and was on the road, I noticed dark, gloomy skies ahead.  And then, bolts of lightning.  And HUGE drops of rain, flooded roads, and loud claps of thunder.  In spite of all that, as I was driving, it looked lighter up ahead.  And sure enough, as I got closer to Charleston, the rain let up.  On the other side, everything was dry!  This family did not see a drop of rain en route to our location, and I had driven through a full-blown thunderstorm!  So it just goes to show you – even though things may look bad at your house, at the photo location, they may just be beautiful!

And it truly was beautiful.  Here are just a handful of images from our time together.  I love so many of these, I don’t think I could pick a favorite.   Just gorgeous!
